Space Wolves Achievements!

SPACE WOLVES!
You've bought the Codex.
You've played dozens of games with them and quite possibly have reaped a great tally with the sons of Russ. Yet.. there is something.. Something that's stopping you from unlocking the true potential of the Space Wolves. What is it?

There is no incentive.
You often find yourself browsing through the Codex, thinking of all those insane combinations, all the great possibilities that just wait to be unleashed upon your enemies, but the motivation is simply not there.
Why change your "Take All Comers" list and try something that may not work? Is it worth the risk?
Don't you sometimes wish that your favorite hobby had an achievement system? Something black on white that reminded you of your accomplishments, that inspired you to always take things a step further, to always go for the exciting aspect of the hobby?
Now there's something that will reward you for your daring personality. A list of great deeds that will continue the Saga of your Space Wolves as you unlock the full epicness of Codex: Space Wolves.

There are 100-something Achievements. Some of them will test your competitiveness. Others will task you with finally painting your army and even putting yourself way out there, seeking the approval of others. There are achievements for besting different foes, for playing various missions from many of the 40k supplement books (Planetstrike, Battle Missions, Apocalypse), for accomplishing the goals of all the Sagas and even some crazy achievements that have to do with fielding many of the Space Wolves Special Characters and doing the impossible (if there is even such a thing for us!) with 'em.

Some of them are easy. Some - challenging. Some achievements will require a totally different list, perhaps (and most likely) something you've never done before. Others are quite situational and you will need to seek out specific opponents to accomplish them... but all of them are supposed to reward you for doing something a little different. Winning with your super-optimized list might be fun, but gets boring after a while. Don't let that happen!!! We have one of the craziest, most flavorful codices out there with so many possibilities, so many insane combinations that if done properly will have you howling like a wolf and your opponents crying.
You might have accomplished some.. perhaps many of them... but 2012 is coming. Why not start from the beginning? Completing all achievements sounds like a GREAT New Year's Resolution to me, at least it will guarantee that your year won't be boring. how about even promising yourself that crazy expensive Forge World mini if you accomplish all of them? Or even sending your old buddy Skarvald the Troll-faced a beer.. or something, hehe..

Oh. And the list WILL grow. I will take all suggestions into consideration, which is why why the achievements are not numbered. Numbers are for Space Smurfs..
You will find the Space Wolves Achievements in the similarly named Page under the blog's header-image thing. And do let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions, if you accomplish a sweet achievement. I LOVE hearing your Sagas, so don't be afraid. IF you have your very own blog or you frequent any Space Wolves forums - share these achievements! Let your Space Wolf buddies know about them. I really think that they are a great way to spice up your hobby.

So enjoy... And happy achievement hunting!
- Skarvald the Troll-faced

  1. Did you come up with these yourself? Cus if you did you're a god damn GENIUS! I Love it!

Now we just need some for all the other armies out there.

  2. @Kraxis: Yeah, I came up with like 99% of them - all by myself! Took a while, though.. But it is worth it! Thank you for the kind words.

  3. I love these... now to see what ones i have done or just start them all over

  4. The Lion and the Wolf can't be done unless you mean Belial instead of Azrael. Azrael is the chapter master, Belial is Master of Deathwing and gives the ability to have terminators as troops.

  5. @BEREK: Start over! New year, new challenges, my friend.
@Anders: Thanks. I must have been looking at an older Dark Angels book. ;O

  15. Well, I would definitely think you should go with the Space Wolves Battle Force - if you get it full retain you basically get a Drop Pod for free! So you save ~$35 on it. Grey Hunter kits are always nice and you can convert tons of things out of them - special characters, HQ's, you can use the extra bits to "wolfify" your vehicles, etc. The Battleforce gives you two troop choices, I would recommend that you make them into Grey Hunters because they are overall one of the best troop choices in the game - great in close combat, great at shooting stuff. Well, they really are average at both parts for what they do, yet they still outshine other Space Marine equivalents! The Codex is a MUST - it is a great read. READ IT FIRST BEFORE YOU OPEN THE BOXES. Trust me. You could always go for what seems/sounds/look cool, but believe me you will regret it later, especially if you have cool lookin' dudes that have "illegal" equipment. I know I did that. A LOT. :P Get your HQ after you read the Codex, depending on what you want to do and what your army is going to be, although a generic Rune Priest is always, always, always a great, solid choice and you should always try to put one in your lists. Oh. And do try to get pewter/metal versions of all GW models - no Finecast, since (and I'm assuming here) you're probably new at modelling and building models. Metal models are advanced but not as advanced and finicky as the "Finecast" resin models which GW's "Citadel" line has been producing as of late. Look up online, there are tons of articles with what things need to build your models. AVOID GAMES WORKSHOP HOBBY SUPPLIES LIKE THE PLAGUE, EXCEPT THEIR PAINTS. You will need Clippers.. (cont'd)

    1. Thanks very much, where would you suggest I buy these. I have looked at some websites and they do not ship to the US, which has been a problem so far. Any suggestions there?

      Delete
  16. Just get them from a hobby store like Hobby USA, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, any Arts and Crafts stores. You can find most things also at Hardware stores. You will need Clippers/Wire Cutters to remove the plastic bits from the plastic frames, a hobby/eXacto Knife to clean models, a flat, circular and triangular file to clean models. You will need "Super Glue" to glue metal to metal, resin to resin, resin to metal, metal to plastic and "plastic glue" to glue plastic to plastic - GET TESTOR'S LIQUID CEMENT. It is priceless. You'll find this at most of the stores, but you can order it from the website. Purchase a few of those, you'll need it. Don't purchase GW's Chaos Black Spray Primer, it is too expensive for what it does. Research online what to use but a great US brand is Krylon. Just make sure you're buying the right kind. Research. Research. Research. Get yourself a hobby light with white light for painting. Look up what and how to use brushes - GW's brushes are okay.. Okay for starters.. especially because you'll mess them up no matter what you do at first! :) But that's okay. Get yourself a "shiny/laminated (?)" floor tile to put paint on and to paint on top of if you plant to paint at home. Pay no more than 1-2 bucks for that.. Some Games Workshop employees (if you have one in the area) are great painters and can teach you a lot of nifty things, especially the basics. The hands-on approach here is pretty important. You will do a way better job if you see someone doing it rather than just watching a few videos or reading articles. At least it made me more confident when I started.. Hehe..
