Space Wolves Apocalypse Formation: The Spear of Russ
The Spear of Russ Points: 100 + MODELS
No one truly knows remembers why the Imperial Guard's mainstay tank was named after the Primarch of the Space Wolves. Some say that it was Leman Russ' Crusade that discovered the STC for the tank, others insist that it was the Space Wolves which started using Leman Russ Battle Tanks en masse. Although they are usually seen as detachments in Imperial Guard infantry companies or seen fighting as part of an "Emperor's Fist" or "Emperor's Lance" armored regiment, the Leman Russ Battle Tanks are also sometimes fielded by the Space Wolves Chapter. The most commonly used variant in such rare instances is the Leman Russ Exterminator.
Armed with a pair of twin-linked autocannons and usually a few heavy bolters, the Leman Russ fulfills a role similar to that of a Predator Destructor. Its simple design, durability and efficiency on the field of battle are literally unmatched by any other Astartes vehicle - whether tasked with obliterating hordes or dealing with light vehicles or flyers, the adaptable as a wolf Exterminator always succeeds.
At first manned by skilled Imperial Guard aces, the few Leman Russ Exterminators in the possession of the Space Wolves were used on many planets and campaigns in and beyond the Imperium of Man.
It was Egil Iron Wolf's idea to allow Space Wolf veterans to man the vehicles instead. Egil, who was the Wolf Lord in charge of the Leman Russes decided that the few Exterminators in the Chapter should be driven by more deserving men - men with centuries of experience on the battle field. Instead of trusting mortal men with his few battle tanks, Egil decided to give the honor of manning a vehicle bearing his Primarch's name to some of the best Long Fangs his Great Company had ever known.
Thus, "The Spear of Russ" armored regiment was created. The honor of going to battle inside the ferro-steel plating is given to some of the older Long Fangs - Space Wolves with centuries of experience, nerves of steel and an extremely reliable and stable demeanor. When a Long Fang's pack becomes too small or too precious to be on the battlefield unprotected it is given the privilege of dispensing indiscriminate justice from the inside of a Leman Russ Battle Tank. Ideally the remnants of a pack receive a dedicated vehicle, with the Squad Leader in control of the vehicle and the rest of his Long Fang pack manning the various turrets and sponsons. "The Spear of Russ" is composed of at least three similar vehicles and one of them, usually the tank with the oldest Squad Leader, is chosen to be the command tank. Although uneasy at first, the different Long Fang packs eventually adapt to the situation and learn to function as one with the rest of the Exterminators.
FORMATION:
3+ Leman Russ Exterminator Tanks (from Codex: Imperial Guard)
One tank must be marked as the command tank.
TANK SQUADRON SPECIAL RULES:
Astartes Crew - To represent the Long Fangs operating the Leman Russ Exterminator tanks, every tank in The Spear of Russ formation gains +1 BS. The extra cost of this upgrade is already included in the points value of the formation.
Auto-targeting System - The Leman Russ Exterminators have the Anti-Aircraft Mount special rule.
Fire Control - If a tank from The Spear of Russ formation is within 12'' of the command vehicle (or is the command vehicle itself) it can shoot each of its weapon at different targets.
Strike Force: All units in The Spear of Russ must be deployed within 6" of the command tank, or, if coming on from reserve they must enter the table within 6" of the point entered by the command tank.

My Aporkalyptik Dream of running a unit of 100 Deffkoptas..
"An ork Big Mek once dreamed of flying and built himself a Deffkopta. Now he is bored with flying at breakneck speeds and simply wishes to walk again... on top of a cloud of Deffkoptas."
A hundred Deffkoptas? In one unit? :O
If you are an Ork player you probably can relate to this crazy idea of mine that will unfortunately probably never happen.
Some of you surely dream of one day building the biggest Stompa or running Da Green Tide with at least 1,000 Ork Boyz. Or.. I don't know.. somehow build a vehicle or create a single unit that in one round of shooting can produce hundreds if not thousands of shots.
You know, man-childish nonsensical ideas like that.
Funny thing how it is always about numbers and sizes with Orkz, huh?
My current obsession are Deffkoptas. I want at least 100 of them, because they are most definitely one of the coolest looking Ork models Games Workshop has ever made, because their rules are fun, fluffy and killy and because ....well.. DAKKA! Need I say more?
But wait.. Deffkoptas only have a Unit Composition of 1-5! How could I possibly ever run a unit of a hundred of 'em? Well, for once I'm thankful for Apocalypse, which not only offers a nifty battle formation but is also the perfect system to field that many orky jetbikes in, because let me tell you what - the unit will eat up your points. All of your points. It's like the school bully that used to beat you up on your way to school and used to take your lunch money to spend them on tokens at the nearby Arcade..
Enter the Deffkopta Big Choppa Skwadron from Apocalypse Reloaded!
The "tax" you have to pay for this ridiculous formation is just 100 points and is totally worth the silliness that you get.
First of all - Whirrin' Deff. You know that scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark in which Indiana Jones is fighting with the stacked Nazi guy next to the plane? Remember what happened to the Nazi guy at the end of the fight. Yeah. Now you can bring the obligatory death-by-airplane-blades scene to a tabletop near you! This allows all of your Deffkoptas in close combat to exchange their attacks for a D6+1 S6 attacks instead, to represent their attempts to slurpify your opponent's little plastic dudemen. Just don't roll any 1's, though, because at the end of the combat you will lose that many Deffkoptas due to explosions.
Floor it Boyz: Having the Strategic Redeployment move once per game is a sweet asset. One that lets you move anywhere on the table while also being able to move within 12'' of your enemies is just amazing. Sure, you don't get to shoot or assault, but being able to drop a blob of ~100 Deffkoptas on a vital objective is petty much the best thing ever. EVER.
Bommz Away: Basically an alternative version of the Bigbommz Deffkoptas may take. Once per game you get to drop this Apocalyptic Barrage weapon on a unit you passed over in the Movement phase. Yes, it means that you can use it while Turbo-boosting or using Strategic Redeployment, since it doesn't count as shooting and it takes place at the end of the Movement phase. It's not too powerful, but it will cause some damage to horde units, swarms, etc. It is S4, AP5 and is Apocalyptic Barrage-X, where X is the number of Deffkoptas in the unit. Yes, it means that you would roll 100 times to see what parts of the Apocalyptic Barrage are hit. You just place that bad boy on.. anything... and it will die. Hundreds of Tyranids/Orkz, blobs of Guardsmen? DEAD. Also, it's a Barrage weapon.. so possibly no cover saves as well. You just pick a unit and it be pulverized. Death from above, baby!
The rest:
Batshit Insane: Remember how your 1-5 Deffkoptas are afraid of losing any models, because their Mob Rule is always unavailable? They are now a Ld 100 Fearless unit, haha.
Tuff as Nailz: At T4(5) and 2 Wounds, Deffkoptas are already pretty durable. Add a decent 4+ armor save and a 3+ cover save from its turbo-boosters. Which also brings up a pretty interesting questions - If Deffkoptas use their Floor it Boyz rule and end up at least 18'' away from their starting position... do they count as turbo-boosting?
How to Make them Extra Tuff:
Oh, sup Mad Dok Grotsnik! What's that? Any model in my army can get cybork bodies for +5 pt./model, you say? I'll take a 100, thank-you-very-much. You can keep the extra parts, of course.
A 5+ invulnerable save will come in handy against all those Strength D weapons that ignore your cover saves.
MORE Dakka or More DAKKA?
This one is tough. Do I run them bare-bones with their delicious twin-linked big shootas, allowing the entire unit to be in range of their targets? Do splurge the extra 1000 points to run them all with twin-linked rokkits launchas and go after.. oh, I dunno, any Super Heavy with my 100 rokkits? I don't think I'd bother with kustom mega-blastas. Or do I perhaps run them as a mixed unit - some ratio of big shootas/rokkits? Maybe 6 out of 10 with big shootas to save some points?
Nah. Go big or go home, I say. Why avoid the chance to pay 5000 points on one unit?
Man, I can just see my opponents' faces. "You brought WHAT?!?"
It's definitely not a game winner. Mighty be on the beardy side, but it will look mighty impressive on the table and can threaten one unit at best. You could use them to screen your entire army, though.
How far am I from obtaining 100 Deffkoptas?
Eh. Not very. I only have around 12 of them, but my friend is saving a bunch for me once I get the money. I'm buying them for ~$5 a pop. So if any of you want to contribute to this insane cause and want to contribute somehow to this truly, truly outrageous Fleet.. hit me up at neiskata DOT gak AT gmail DOT com. Who knows, maybe you have a few Deffkoptas to spare or guilt me into buying.
One day it will happen.
And it will be glorious.
Oh, so glorious.

Kustom Ork Apocalypse Datasheet: Magnokinetik Lifta Wagon Battery
The Lifta-Droppa has always been my favorite thing about my Stompaz. It is so fluffy, so.. Orky and is always so much fun to use during a nice game of Apocalypse. Once I heard about the option to field a Battlewagon (the Lifta Wagon featured in IA 8 - Raid on Kastorel-Novem) equipped with a Lifta-droppa my jaws did some dropping of their own. I just had to do a formation that would combine the powers of a few lifta-droppas. Just... had... to. It is a pretty expensive formation, given that Lifta Wagons are like 225 pts. each...
Tell me what you think..
Magnokinetik Lifta Wagon Battery Points: 150 + MODELS
Fascinated with the utility and unlimited power of magno-traktor beams a Big Mek once gave birth to the idea of combining the charges of numerous lifta-droppas "just ta see wut happenz". Already, mounting lifta-droppas on top of Battlewagons or "Lifta Wagons" was a very popular (although extremely dangerous and reckless!) practice, but he craved for something bigger and flashier. He was not prepared for the charge of the traktor beams to rip out all of his cybork implants, however.
The Magnokinetik Lifta Wagon Battery features a squadron of at least three Lifta Wagons lead by a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field daring enough to control this weapon of wanton destruction. Able to combine their tractor beams, the Lifta Wagons are capable of moving mountains of junkyard crap: naturally even multiple vehicles and Super Heavies are not safe. Operating withing the protection of their own magnetic field, the Lifta Wagon Battery is a valuable asset to any Waaaagh!
FORMATION:
3+ Lifta Wagons
1 Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field
One Lifta Wagon must be designated as the command tank. The Big Mek rides in it!
SPECIAL RULES:
Don't Kross Da Beamz! - The combined force of many traktor beams is truly devestating and just like most Ork teknology it defies all laws of physics, all logic and most of all - all sense. The Lifta Wagons focus their lifta-droppas at a target designated by the Big Mek and created a gigantic magnetic field that could move mountains of scrap metal and all sorts of random junk including any soon-to-be-lifted-and-then-dropped-from-the-skies enemy vehicles.
Range STR AP Special
Magnokinetik Traktor Beam 48" - - Apocalyptic barrage (*). Lifta-droppa
All vehicles (even wrecked ones), vehicle squadrons, Super Heavies and small pieces of terrain that would normally be affected by powerful magnetic fields (tank traps, barbed wires, barrels) even partially touched by the Apocalyptic Barrage are treated as being hit by a Lifta-droppa. The standard rules apply and all vehicles must move the exact same distance in the direction of the scatter die. Super Heavies only suffer d3 glancing hits. Roll separately for the number of glancing hits on each vehicle.
*: The Magnokinetic Traktor Beam has a barrage rating of 1+1 per Lifta Wagon in the formation withing 12" of the Big Mek's command tank.
Ferromagnetik Force Shield - The Big Mek's own Kustom Force Field is drawing from the powerful energy supply of the Lifta Wagons and when combined with the magnetic field produces a unique form of protection. For all intensive purposes, the Ferromagnetic Force Shield counts as a Kustom Force Field. When a template weapon is targeting a unit within the range of the Ferromagnetic Force Field, roll a d6. On a 4+ reflect the shot from the place it hit up to 24'' in a random direction. In addition, during the Shooting phase you may choose not to shoot some of the Lifta-Droppas to increase the range of the Ferromagnetic Force Shield by d3 inches until your next turn.
Strike Force: All units in the Magnokinetic Lifta Wagon Battery must be deployed within 12" of the command tank, or, if coming on from reserve they must enter the table within 12" of the point entered by the command tank.

APORKALYPSE!
A quick shot of our opponent's table.
This friendly game of Apocalypse was very sudden and was between 3 Eldar players and 3 Ork players. Originally the points were supposed to be in the 20-25k range, but we decided to keep it "light" and play only with 18,000 points per side. And boy was that a LOT.
Ork table #2!
Ork table #1!
Let me tell you something about Orkz. They don't scale up with points very well. The more points you play, the harder it is to find the models to fill in the gaps, because our stuff is oh so cheap. Our list was created in less than 30 minutes.. without writing anything down. O_O We just said what we had and what we wanted and added it all up on a calculator. So in the end we ended up with a lot of "theoretical" models.
We had around 20 Big Meks with Kustom Force Fields scattered all over the play, but we maybe had the models for 4-5 of them (each Stompa had 2 Big Meks with KFFs with some Burna Boyz meks) and we pretty much said that we were going to recycle models. I mean, after all.. all of our models would not have been able to fit on the tables.
There really was no premise or back-story for this epic battle, but the way I decided to look at it was a huge ork Waaagh attacking two Eldar Craftworlds at the same time. Why? Oh.. the usual stuff.
I never really learned the difference between all the Eldar vehicles. Wave Serpents, Scorpions, Cobras, Vampire Hunters.. and what nots. For some reason they all just look and sound the same to me.. and they are all nigh impossible to kill or out-shoot. I'll let the pictures speak for my ignorance. There were a lot of Forge World Eldar fliers. Yeah. You can't charge them, the Orkz' short shooting ranges are decreased even further and the need to roll 6s to hit and having to go through TWO rerollable 4+ cover saves takes care of even massive fire batteries like Lootaz or Deffkoptaz. Oh, well.
3 out of da 5 Stompaz!
Quite possible if you ask me. ; )
Da Kindergarten Stompa!
But you know what? Stompaz are tough as nails! As I said before, each Stompa had a Repair Krew, 2 Big Meks (who allow weapons to shoot in the same turn they were fixed by them on a 4+!!!), 3 Burna Meks who could fix weapons.. and of course that delicious 4+ cover save from the Kustom Force Field. Add that to the 13 armor on the front and the fact that their primary weapons ignore any destroyed or shaken results on a 4+ and the Stompa becomes a vehicle to behold!
| Avatar: The Last A-- | . |
Clash of the Titans
The only Stompa that got gunned down was the melee-oriented Goff Stompa that got most of its structure points melted by a brave unit of Eldar Fire Dragons, but it wasn't until it fell the black Revenant Scout Titan that it turned into a pile of steaming scraps.
Stompas ARE Walkers after all..
I was also a big fan of a melee between a Deff Dread leading some Killa Kanz that managed to krump the faces of a bigger Warwalker squad. Alien technology? Put a gretchin in trash can, wield it shut and see what happens to your fancy Space Elf toys.. : )
A lot of the Orkz were painted, which was a pleasant surprise. Usually in games like this da Orkz are mostly black or even grey, but I think that 95% of all Ork Boyz were painted. Now that's impressive! I do have a lot more pictures to post, but maybe I'll save them for some other occasion.
